Sigh. Gotta love politics. Especially in an election year. Here’s what you need to know in one sentence: The City Council ban is illegal.

You may recall that the city banned dispensaries last year. However, as per last year’s 2nd District Court of Appeal ruling Pack v. Superior Court the Council does not have the authority to ban anything. The ruling states that an outright ban of medical marijuana is illegal.

Look for a whole slew of law suits coming down the pike with the decision ultimately resting on a State Supreme Court decision to be made sometime in the future.

Specifically, the Council has banned storefront dispensaries which are considered a “public nuisance” in the City of Los Angeles. Speed Weed is not a storefront dispensary. We are a private, members-only collective. We do not operate in public. We aren’t a nuisance to anyone — except the softball team playing against us.

“OK fine”, you say. “The City of LA will still come after you in the meanwhile.”

Ah yes. Clearly the Mayor, Council and Chief of LAPD are not interested in court rulings, public opinion or the law. They just want weed OUT OF THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES.

Yes, most of our patients are in Los Angeles but Speed Weed HQ is not.
